Spotted Blood In Your Urine? Don’t Panic
Blood in urine is a medical condition that is referred to us hematuria. This is a condition in which there is presence of red blood cells in urine but if white blood cells are also found alongside red blood cells, then this translates to a urinary infection.
The urinary tract has many organs i.e. kidney which filters the blood and produce urine, ureters tubes that carry this urine to the bladder where it is stored until one empties it, urethra that is a passage from the bladder to the outside of the body. In men, the prostate and genital organs are also part of the urinary tract.
A problem may occur to any of these organs to cause blood in urine hence this condition can only be diagnosed by a physician. An obvious symptom of this condition is a discoloration in urine to either reddish, pinkish or brown-red, discomfort when passing urine, pain in the lower back are or nausea and vomiting.
In females, blood in urine is more prevalent since they have a higher chance of urinary tract infections arising from bacteria such as Escherichia coli or STD while in men, the prostate enlarging (Benign prostatic hyperplasia) is a common cause. This is more especially in men over the age of over 50 years.
Other common causes of blood in urine include kidney stones (see our article - home remedies for kidney stones), prostate or bladder diseases, viral infection, rapturing of the kidney especially due to receiving a hard blow or other serious medical conditions like diabetes and sickle cell anemia.
Treatment of this condition include various remedies recommended by a physician but some simple home remedies like taking coconut water with spinach juice which assists in eliminating bladder infections, adding moderate levels of soup from meat into tour diet (should not contain oil) can help relieve hematuria.
However, in serious conditions like kidney stones, more complicated procedures such as surgery may be required to remove the stones or x-rays in case of any of the cancers listed above. Blood in urine may range from just a simple complication to very serious infections hence any sign should immediately require a visit to your doctor.
