Gastritis - Basic Overview

Gastritis is a medical condition characterized by pain in the upper part of the abdomen as a result of the inflammation and irritation of the stomach lining. This condition is triggered by the substances that we take that increases acidity in the stomach lining.

Causes

Its causes can be classified into three groups depending on the modes that causes each type. The three categories are;
Acute gastritis

It results from the erosion of the mucous layer of the stomach wall. It is caused by consumption of substances like prolonged intake of drugs like aspirin and naproxen. Long time consumption of alcohol will also trigger erosion of the mucous membrane.

Chronic Gastritis


It is mainly caused by bacteria called Helicobacteria Pylori which causes stomach infection.

Even though there are various categories that gastritis can be classified into, its symptoms are universal as all will be characterized by pain in the upper part of the belly. Other symptoms includes; Loss of appetite, Black stools, Nausea and vomiting. The vomit has blood spots as the erosion of the stomach might result in bleeding, Bloating and Hiccups.

Gastritis is a condition whose treatment involves the control of the symptoms. Basically, Gastritis is treated by use of antacid drugs. Antacid drugs also pose serious health problems which includes; Diarrhea in case the antacid contains Magnesium. Constipation if it contains Aluminum.

  • Use of ginger. Ginger has been proven to be a good natural antibiotic that can help reduce stomach inflammations. It is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial and thus can help solve the problem.
  • A drink from licorice.
  • Take roasted fennel after a meal.
  • Ensure that you drink plenty of water each day.
  • Take coconut water within the 24 hours when the symptoms show up.
