Anemia - What is it?

Anemia results when there are not enough red blood cells to carry oxygen around to the tissues around the body. There are three types of anemia; aplastic, sickle cell and vitamin deficiency. Anemia could actually be temporary or permanent depending on the cause and severity. Mild anemia can be treated through proper diet whereby one would be required to eat healthy food rich in iron that would increase the red blood cells levels. It can affect anyone regardless of their age and gender.

Signs of Anemia

Anemia normally portrays certain signs and symptoms like fatigue where by the patient always feels tired. This could go on for the whole day and night even when you haven’t done anything to render you tired. This could be very disruptive to your normal routine and even declare you incompetent in some other areas. People with anemia are always so dizzy. This is actually true when they stand up too quickly or suddenly. It could also happen when one rises from being in a bended position. The dizziness could go on for a while when triggered.


In the case of the anemia caused by iron deficiency, one might experience pins and needles kind of sensation. This is mostly felt at the legs and hands and could get quite uncomfortable. Irregular heart beat is also common with anemia. One tends to breathe very fast at one point then it gets back to normal after a while.

Due to reduced red blood cells in the body, the skin tends to be very pale. The eye lids, nails and skin tend to appear whitish which is actually a clear sign of anemia. Cold hands and feet are also a common sign of this condition. This can happen any time of day regardless of the weather and temperature. One doesn’t have control over it hence nothing can be done.
