Ayurveda the Holistic Treatment

Ayurvedic_MassageAyurveda is a holistic medical system that uses nature’s principles to maintain a person’s health and helps to keep his body and mind in perfect equilibrium through proper diet, lifestyle and herbal remedies. Ayurveda has its roots in India, and has been there even before thousands of years, and its fundamentals can be seen in the Vedas, the Hindu scriptures. Ayurveda has two words, “Ayus” means life and “Veda” means knowledge, and “Ayurveda” means “the knowledge of life”.

The two types of Ayurvedic practices are the Traditional and Maharishi Ayurvedas. Traditional Ayurveda uses herbs to balance the energies and the Maharishi Ayurveda along with herbal remedies, emphasizes the use of meditation.

The aim of this system is to prevent illness and preserve life, to protect health and to eliminate diseases. Ayurveda believes that the universe has five elements and these five elements are present in the human body as three energies, and when these energies get accumulated in the human body beyond the desirable amount, the balance of the body is upset and this leads to illnesses. Ayurveda guides to follow certain diet patterns and lifestyle changes to reduce the excess amount of energy. According to ayurveda, a healthy person has all his energies in balance, has good appetite, has well functioning body tissues and natural urges, and his mind and body are cheerful.

Panchakarma

Panchakarma or the Purification Therapy is a process of cleansing the body. When the toxins are abundant and get accumulated, a fivefold purification therapy is used to flush out these toxins from the body. This therapy consists of:

  • Therapeutic vomiting
  • Purgation
  • Enema
  • Elimination of toxins through the nose
  • Detoxification of the blood.

Ayurveda helps to lower blood pressure, reduces cholesterol, speeds up recovery from illnesses and slows down aging process. Most of the Ayurvedic herbal medicines have antioxidant properties that protects against herat problems and even arthritis. Vegetarian diet is recommended by Ayurvedic practitioners and this is better for the heart than diets that contain red meat. On the whole, Ayurveda helps people to live a longer, healthier and balanced lives.
