Kinesiology as a Biofeedback Therapy

Short Audio Introduction:

A system for assessing the major components of any health condition is the Applied Kinesiology — also known as Muscle Testing. This system is biofeedback minus all the technology and gadgets which also serves as the foundation that would support and evaluate three components of health;

  • The chemical component of health
  • The emotional component of health
  • The structural component of health

In the year 1964, Chiropractor George Goodheart, Jr. has developed this system as another way to view an individual’s condition. As the years went by, Applied Kinesiology has been used in various hospitals and clinics. Many doctors, including dentists and veterinarians, have found that Applied Kinesiology — along with its many tools and approaches — is very beneficial.

What Is This System?

Man practising Kinesiology on a female patient.Kinesiology is used to examine an individual’s balance as an important biofeedback. The person is monitored before and after balancing exercises. At the same time, it serves as a guide to knowing whether a certain function is, energy-wise, out of balance. This is an examination on strength-resistance wherein it focuses on the link between three parts:

  • The muscle itself
  • The organ related to the muscle
  • The area of the body that is tested

As the muscle strength is tested, the results show even the conditions of the organ or a certain body part. This is due to the relation of muscle strength to an organ’s health or to an area of the body being tested.

How does Kinesiology work?

Some studies on Kinesiology come from some philosophies and belief of other therapies. With every movement there is an opposing muscle and an active muscle. The opposing muscle is turned off while the latter is turned on. If there is an imbalance to this, it is corrected by using techniques such as applying manual pressure on the affected muscle. In some cases, Kinesiology may be used to test allergies. With it, one can learn of what foods can cause him side effects and/or allergic reactions. It can also be used to monitor abnormalities or an excess of the following:

  • Antioxidants
  • Amino Acids
  • Fatty Acids
  • Oils
  • Vitamins
  • Minerals

When used with a few proper diagnostic tests, Kinesiology allows a medical practitioner or specialist to examine a patient’s condition when he/she has gone through manual muscle testing. As the patient’s muscle function is changed due to the corrections, challenges, and tests performed, the physician is provided with biofeedback. Muscle testing may be performed during the use of Applied Kinesiology, yet the power of a muscle in not the one being evaluated. But instead, it is the control of the nervous system on the function of the muscle. Because of this, Applied Kinesiology is often called “Functional Neurology”.

Conditions It May Correct

  • Joint Problems
  • Muscle Problems
  • Structural imbalances

The Chiropractic profession uses applied Kinesiology to treat the three conditions stated above. Using the system, it also helps Chiropractors indicate or determine organ dysfunctions.

Applied Kinesiology

Kinesiology is a noninvasive method of assessing a person’s body imbalances and its needs due to the fact that it comes from the concept of internal energy — a traditional and fundamental medicine in China. The system involves examining an individual’s body responses when applied with a slight pressure to a muscle. This provides the necessary information on blocked energies, nutritional deficiencies, food sensitivities, and organ functions.

Applied Kinesiology also relates to our nervous system. The nervous system consists of a complex system of axons and neurons. These make up the system of signals that are sent throughout our body which include muscle activity. A disease or condition has a chance of taking over your body if ever any of the nerves in your nervous system become dysfunctional or stressed. With the help of Kinesiology, one may be able to evaluate the nerves found within our body. Kinesiology may also be able to test a certain stimulus’ responses.

Together with a patient’s clinical presentation, and by using manual muscle testing, Kinesiologists are able to test the three components of health: the chemical component, the structural component, and the emotional component. Applied Kinesiologists are able to recognize other contributing aspects of the condition of a patient through evaluating his/her nutritional, structural and emotional aspect.

At present, Applied Kinesiology aims to have a world-wide approach to be one of the best options for diagnosing diseases towards better health.
